MidCal MINIs Monthly Meeting – 9/14/2012

It may not quite be September, but Oktoberfest plans are in the air for MidCal MINIs September monthly meeting.  Friday, September 14th the Oktoberfest themed celebration/meeting will be hosted at the home of club members Jon and Joanie Brothers and will begin at 6:30 pm. sharp.  A Barbeque Bratwurst meal is planned but anything else  you would like tossed on the grill is welcome.  You are also encouraged to bring your favorite side dish or dessert and beverage.

A beer tasting test contest will be held with prizes awarded for the winner in each of three tasting categories (Light, Medium Bodied, and Dark beers).  Please bring a few extras to include in the mixed bag of blind beer selections.

A special highlight of the event, will be personnel from the RaceRoom along with two racing simulators.  Last year a group from MidCal MINIs kicked off the start of the busy holiday season with an informal club meeting consisting of extreme driving at RaceRoom located at River Park. If you missed that great event, you do not want to miss out on this opportunity to take the simulators for a spin.

If you don’t know, RaceRoom Fresno itself consists of 29 PC-based simulators which allow drivers to race on their choice of international racetracks in the race car of their dreams. Racing enthusiasts say the course conditions and the correlating reactions from car suspensions are spot on. The simulators let players pick their own race route, and also provides dozens of options when it comes to the color and model of race car picked. A small dining area offers drinks, chips and other snacks, when race car drivers need to take a little break from all the fun.

The “RaceRoom” simulators are considered the next best thing to real race car driving.  The simulators at the RaceRoom come with 5.1 surround sound, Butt Kicker seat mounted bass shakers and wrap around monitors. The racing seats and force feedback steering wheels make the driver feel as if they are actually racing one of the 50 international racing circuits and one of 72 real world race cars.

At the end of the race event last year, trophies were presented to the top three drivers, Josh, Tom and DJ.  Will September 14th be the re-match for this trio?  Some of the driving techniques exhibited by attendees during last year’s event were quite unique and should only be done in simulators!  The cost of the simulators for “Oktoberfest”will be shared by those in attendance at the September 14th meeting so contact Tina with your RSVP ASAP.   Early notification would be greatly appreciated in order to effectively plan this event and to ensure plenty of BBQ items.  Additional information as well as directions to Jon and Joanie’s place will be provided upon your RSVP.  So mark your calendar for this great event.
